More IPhone 17 Pro Design Details Leaked

After years of Apple maintaining the same, tired, boring design for its iPhones, this year could bring about the refresh many have been hoping for. Thanks to a post on X by @MajinBuOfficial and renders by @kdctweets, more details surrounding the design of the camera module for the iPhone 17 Pro have leaked.
iPhone 17 Pro camera module design
According to the post, Apple will adopt a “spliced material design” for the camera module for the iPhone 17 Pro. This will come in the form of a glass and aluminum alloy solution. Apple could have opted to just use aluminum and a cutout for the camera module. That would have been a much easier and more obvious choice. However, since Apple is rumored to use a slope design, not a step, between the camera module and back cover, they had to go with this spliced material design choice.
This will result in a smoother and more seamless transition between the camera module and the back cover. It’s admittedly a very small and seemingly minor design detail, but like they say, the devil is in the details. Also, the renders shared by @kdctweets look very different from some of the renders we’ve seen in the past.
This render looks more elegant with the slope, whereas previous renders make the camera module look like it was stuck on. Also, the post seems to corroborate previous rumors that Apple could ditch the use of titanium for aluminum. This makes sense from a cost and manufacturing perspective.
Aluminum is cheaper than titanium. While it isn’t as tough or durable as titanium, it is softer, making it easier to work with. Plus, at the end of the day, we’re not sure most people can tell the difference.
First design change in years
Apple has maintained the iPhone’s design for years. The company made a shift in design with the iPhone 12 series, opting for flatter sides compared to the curved edges of its predecessors. However, over the years, apart from the introduction of new colors and the use of titanium, the overall design of Apple’s iPhones have looked the same.
The iPhone 17 series could be the first iPhone in years to sport a brand new design. This might be especially true for the iPhone 17 Pro series which will come with a new camera module. Instead of using an island-like design, Apple is opting for a bar-like design similar to what Google did for its Pixel phones.
However, the renders we’ve seen are a bit confusing. The camera lenses are still clustered together instead of spread out like Google’s Pixel phones. This leaves a weird gap and empty space between the lenses and the flash module. It’s an odd design choice. Either the renders have it wrong or there’s another feature in there that we don’t know about.
