Microsoft Partners With UBreakiFix For Xbox Console Repairs
Contents
Xbox console repairs generally aren’t something most owners can do on their own and while there are options out there for a fix, now there’s going to be one more. Today, Microsoft officially announced that it’s partnering with uBreakiFix to handle console repairs. Specifically for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S models.
The partnership is partly to give consumers more ways to repair their consoles. It’s also to help Microsoft reach its sustainability goals. “At Xbox, we’re continuing to improve how we design, build, distribute, and use our products to reduce our environmental impact and help us reach Microsoft’s goal of being a zero waste, carbon negative, and water positive company by 2030,” Microsoft said in an Xbox Wire blog post.
Official in-person repairs for the Xbox were only available through Microsoft prior to this partnership. If your Xbox needed to be serviced, you’d have to take it to the Microsoft Store to get the job done. Of course, some consumers may have access to repairs through local repair shops as well. With uBreakiFix repairs, however, they will be officially authorized by Microsoft.
Xbox console repairs will begin on January 20 at over 700 locations
There is one major benefit to this partnership and it’s that consumers who need to get their Xbox repaired will now be able to go to many more places than before. Microsoft Store locations are few and far between compared to uBreakiFix locations. So if you wanted to get your Xbox repaired, there was a high likelihood you’d have to drive further than across town to get it done. You can find uBreakiFix locations a lot more frequently as there are over 700 locations available across the US.
Repairs will be available starting from January 20, and they’ll be available for three different Xbox Series models. Microsoft says repairs will be available for the Xbox Series S 1TB in Robot White, and the Xbox Series X 1TB Digital in Robot White. The Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition is eligible as well. Microsoft doesn’t mention the original 1TB Black disc model of the Xbox Series X. But it wouldn’t be surprising if this was repairable too. Consumers will want to check to make sure though. As of right now, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed whether or not the 1TB disc model will be eligible.
Microsoft also now sells replacement parts for the console
In addition to now having more places to get repairs, Xbox console owners can now purchase replacement parts for their console from the Microsoft Store. This is in addition to component parts that can be purchased from iFixit. A partnership that Microsoft announced toward the end of last year.
Thanks to this new partnership, repairs will now be easier than ever. And if you can repair your own console, the iFixit parts are readily available.
