Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Broke 1 Million Sales Last Year

Meta has come a long way since burning billions of dollars to give its metaverse avatars legs. The company partnered with glasses conglomerate Ray-Ban to launch a pair of glasses that are filled to the brim with tech. Well, according to a leaked report, Meta sold over a million Ray-Ban glasses last year.

What can you do with the Meta Ray-Ban glasses? Well, you can do basically what the Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1 tried to do. They provide a way for you to move your mobile computation, AI generation, and content creation away from your phone. These glasses allow you to contact Meta AI using your voice. Equipped with a camera, the glasses can record videos and take pictures using just voice prompts.

Along with that, you can ask Meta AI questions about the world around you using the glasses’ camera. For instance, if you see a type of flower, you’ll be able to ask Meta what it is, and you’ll get a verbal response through the built-in speakers.

Other features include telling Meta to send photos to other people and using the glasses as a camera for voice calls. If these features sound interesting to you, you can pick up a pair starting at $299. Getting a pair with polarized lenses will cost you $329 and getting a pair with transition lenses will cost $379.

Where other AI devices failed, Meta succeeded. It seems like these smart glasses are doing quite well, as a leaked meeting (leaked via The Verge) indicates. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke at the meeting and stated (in reference to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses):

So I think one of the questions for us is, are we going to go from 1 million this year to 2 million? Are we going to go from 1 million to 5 million?

This means that Meta has no plans to slow down production of this device. It caught lightning in a bottle this time around. 2021’s Meta Ray-Ban Stories didn’t even sell half as many units as the current glasses.

According to UploadVR, the company is planning to launch some Super Bowl ads featuring Hollywood A-listers like Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth. So, it’s obvious that Meta has something good going. 1 million seems to be just the start for Meta, and we’re all looking forward to what the company has planned.
