MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus Tipped For Launch In March

MediaTek has been making strides over the years. Last year, the company debuted its latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400. Now, according to the latest rumors from Digital Chat Station, MediaTek could be gearing up to launch a slightly upgraded variant this March in the form of the Dimensity 9400 Plus.

Slight upgrade

Before you get too excited, the upgrades we’ll see in the Dimensity 9400+ won’t be particularly massive. The Dimensity 9400+ is essentially a slightly overclocked version of the Dimensity 9400, according to the post on Weibo. Currently, the Dimensity 9400 features an X925 super-core that maxes out at 3.63GHz. The Dimensity 9400+, on the other hand, will reach clock speeds of up to 3.7GHz.

It’s definitely not the most significant leap in performance we’ve seen, but upgrades are upgrades. The post also claims that two companies plan to adopt the chipset in 2025. The tipster does not mention the names of these companies but only states that one device will feature a small straight-screen with a periscope camera system. The other is rumored to be a larger device with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.

This little tidbit of information has led to speculation that the devices in question are the Oppo Find X8S and the Vivo X200S. Both these handsets are likely candidates as they will launch soon.

Either way, if the rumors of a March launch are true, we should have more details about the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus soon enough.

Watch out, Qualcomm!

MediaTek used to be viewed as the cheaper and less powerful alternative to Qualcomm. For years, that narrative held true. However, MediaTek has made huge improvements over the years. It’s to the point where some of its chipsets are nipping at Qualcomm’s heels. In fact, there have been rumors that its chipsets are powerful enough for Samsung to even consider using them for its flagship handsets.

Qualcomm’s flagship mobile chipset at the moment is the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This is the chipset that the Dimensity 9400 is going up against. The leak of this information is actually kind of interesting. Qualcomm recently launched a slightly downgraded version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This variant features 7-cores instead of 8-cores.

On the other hand, MediaTek is going in the opposite direction with the Dimensity 9400+, which will offer a negligible performance increase. The company has a long way to go before it catches up to Qualcomm. So far, it has mostly been Chinese OEMs who have adopted MediaTek’s chipsets.
