Look, Don’t Touch: Eye Scrolling Is Coming To Apple Vision Pro

Apple has launched some doozies in the past. Products where what’s advertised failed to live up to expectations, like Siri and Apple Maps. This is why we, and many others, were amazed that the Vision Pro pretty much lived up to the marketing hype. Now, the Vision Pro’s about to get even more magical with the visionOS 3 update that brings eye scrolling to the headset.

Eye scrolling coming to visionOS 3

According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, he claims that Apple is working on a new feature for the visionOS 3 update that will introduce eye scrolling capabilities. This means that instead of using hand or finger gestures to navigate things like websites, you can just use your eyes. This would make using the Vision Pro a mostly hands-free experience.

As it stands, the Vision Pro already supports eye tracking to a certain degree. It’s actually kind of part of its charm and the overall magical feeling you get when using the headset. Users can select items by looking at it, but they would still need to use a hand gesture to “tap” it.

That in itself is fine. Some people may prefer having some tactile confirmation first. However, eye scrolling would make certain activities much smoother and potentially more fun. Apple has experimented with eye-tracking technology over the years. For instance, the iPhone and iPad have accessibility features that let users control an onscreen pointer with their eyes.

Plus, the Vision Pro already has various cameras and sensors designed for eye-tracking, which should make this feature even better. We don’t know how effective it is yet, but on paper it sounds pretty cool.

The future of the Vision Pro

Apple will announce the VisionOS 3 update at WWDC 2025, where, in addition to eye scrolling, it could also finally introduce Apple Intelligence to the headset. Apple Intelligence on the iPhone has been a lackluster experience. However, it could prove more useful when used in context with Vision Pro.

We also hear rumors that Apple could be working on new Vision Pro headsets. One of the rumored new models could be lighter and less expensive, while the other could tether to an external device like a Mac over a wired connection.
