Lenovo’s Legion Gaming Laptops Level Up At CES 2025

Lenovo‘s Legion gaming laptops have been some of the best options over the past few years, and the company is announcing a refreshed lineup for CES 2025. In total, it has five “new” laptops that are being announced at the show, although there are likely to be several different SKUs as Lenovo will have variations on each one. The laptops being announced today include the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i, Legion Pro 5i, Legion Pro 5, Legion 7, and Legion 5.
As with past years, the Legion Pro 7i and Legion Pro 5i will feature the latest Intel chips, while the non-i models will be powered by AMD’s latest. Each model has a specific consumer target, but all of these new laptops will be perfectly suitable for gaming and playing today’s most popular titles.
That being said, if you want the best of what Lenovo has to offer from this new lineup, you’ll want to focus your attention on the Legion Pro 7i. As Lenovo says it’s “designed for high-ranked competitive gamers who want the most out of their gaming laptops.” If you’re desiring something more portable, Lenovo has the Legion Go S handheld coming.
The 2025 Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is the company’s flagship gaming laptop
Gaming laptops by nature tend to be less powerful than a desktop PC because of the limitation on space. There just isn’t enough room for components like more powerful graphics cards with higher wattage output. There’s also less room for cooling. So optimal performance isn’t usually sustained as long. However, that doesn’t mean gaming laptops can’t be powerful. Lenovo has continually proven this to be true with its Legion gaming laptops over the past few years.
This year, the Legion Pro 7i is the company’s top-tier offering. It comes with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU. All that performance power is going to produce some serious heat. Thankfully, the Legion Pro 7i also features Lenovo’s Coldfront Vapor with Hyperchamber technology. Lenovo says this can help the laptop output up to 250W TDP, which means ultra-performance while remaining cool under sustained heavy loads. Such as high-end gaming.
Additionally, the laptop comes with a 16-inch OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate and WQXGA resolution. It has a peak brightness of 500 nits as well to help offset any potential glare. In terms of IO ports, the Legion Pro 7i comes with two USB-C ports, three USB-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an audio combo port, and an ethernet port. It supports Wi-Fi 7 too. So as long as you have a router that supports it as well, you can expect some fast wireless connections at home. The laptop will go on sale in March starting at $2,399.99.
The Legion Pro 5 series should offer competitive performance at a lower cost
The Legion Pro 5 series offerings will have many of the same features as the Legion Pro 7 series, with some changes.
For example, Lenovo specifies a 200W TDP instead of 250W from the Coldfront Hyper technology. They also only come with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU. They’ll come with the same CPU though. For RAM and storage, the Legion Pro 7i will have up to 64GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. The Legion Pro 5 series matches the storage but will have half the RAM at up to 32GB.
When it comes to the display it’s the same size and resolution and it’s also an OLED panel. It does have a lower refresh rate of 165Hz though. The Legion Pro 5 series options also come with all the same ports. Lenovo says the Legion Pro 5i will start at $1,499.99 and go on sale in May. There will also be an AMD model of this laptop running on the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX CPU starting at $1,399.99.
For those looking to spend a little bit less without much compromise, Lenovo has the new Legion 5i and Legion 7i offerings. These will come with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU, up to 64GB or 32GB of RAM, and 2TB of storage. They will also have 15.1-inch and 16-inch WQXGA displays respectively. The Lenovo Legion 5i will start at $1,299.99 and will be available in May. Meanwhile, the Legion 7i will start at $1,599.99 and be available in June.
For the truly budget-conscious, the Legion 5 will start at $1,149.99. Lenovo also has some new LOQ gaming laptops coming with up to an RTX 5070 GPU. However, it hasn’t announced pricing or availability details on those yet.
