It’s Now Just The ‘Gemini’ App As ‘Gemini Pro’ Brand Goes Away

Google has finalized a branding change for the Gemini app that started at I/O 2025, with “Gemini Pro” and “Gemini Ultra” no longer in use.

When Google announced “AI Pro” (and “AI Ultra”) last month, “Gemini Advanced” went away. The company no longer wanted to signal that there were different versions of Gemini. For example, Gemini Advanced has a red-ish version of the sparkle icon.

Instead, everyone uses “Gemini” with free, Pro, and Ultra tiers that correspond to the broader Google AI offerings. It reflects how there’s more to Google AI than just the Gemini app.

This change was live on gemini.google.com at I/O (with the page name going from “Gemini” to “Google Gemini” a few days later), but the mobile clients did something different. For subscribers, “Gemini Advanced” became “Gemini Pro” or “Gemini Ultra” at the top of the app.

Old vs. new

As of today, we’re no longer seeing “Gemini Pro” above the model picker on Android and iOS. Instead, it’s just “Gemini” with Google noting what level you have in the account menu with “Manage subscription — Pro.” Tapping takes you to Google One settings on the web.

It does seem that Google was going to proceed with “Gemini Pro” at some point, but changed their mind just before I/O.
