According to a post on X by a private account, the iPhone SE 4 will use the same A18 chip found in the base iPhone 16 models. The iPhone 16 series uses the A18 and A18 Pro. The Pro chips are reserved for the higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. In terms of performance, the iPhone SE 4 could be on par with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

This is actually not the first time we’ve heard these rumors. 9to5Mac reported something similar in October 2024, so the rumors are consistent, at the very least. At the moment, the current generation iPhone SE uses the A15 chip. This means that the jump to the A18 is quite huge and should offer significant gains in performance.

It’s an interesting choice by Apple. This is because the third-generation iPhone SE uses the A15, which first appeared in the iPhone 13 series. However, the upgrade isn’t that surprising either. The iPhone 16 lineup all use the same A18 chip. In the past, Apple kept its newer chips for the Pro and Pro Max models.
