IPhone 17 Series’ Dynamic Island Size May Remain Unchanged

The iPhone 17 series is tipped to bring some major design changes this year. However, rumored tweaks to the size of the punch hole for the Dynamic Island may not come true. A reputable analyst claimed that he does not expect a reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 lineup.

The latest rumors about Apple’s upcoming flagship phones have revealed that they will have a radically different look than what we have seen in recent years. Apple may abandon the classic placement of the rear camera sensors in the upper left corner. The firm could implement a new horizontal camera module reminiscent of the one on the old Huawei Nexus 6P. An Apple senior engineering leader even said last year that the iPhone 17 project is the “most ambitious” to date.

Apple reportedly won’t reduce the size of the iPhone 17 series’ Dynamic Island

Early leaks related to the iPhone 17 Pro models claimed they will have a smaller Dynamic Island. This could enable a slightly larger usable screen space and a less intrusive “pill” when enjoying media content or gaming. However, industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he “expects the Dynamic Island size to remain largely unchanged across the 2H25 iPhone 17 series.” Kuo has a good track record of getting his predictions right regarding upcoming devices. That means the iPhone 17 could actually keep the Dynamic Island we’ve seen so far.

Rumors about the reduction in the size of the display’s punch-hole on the iPhone 17 lineup came from Jeff Pu, another analyst. Pu said last year that Apple will implement a new “metalens” facial ID technology on the Pro models. This could result in a smaller Dynamic Island compared to previous iterations. We will probably have to wait a little longer to confirm which of the two sources is right.

Apple debuted the Dynamic Island in 2022 with the launch of the iPhone 14 series. Back then, only the “Pro” variants boasted the evolution of the iPhones’ notch. Later generations integrated it into all models in the lineup.
