Infinix Has Some Pretty Cool Smartphone Concepts It’s Showing Off At MWC

Batteries on our smartphones still suck. The most battery life you get from a smartphone? Best case scenario—2 days. But what if you never had to charge your phone again? That’s one of the problems Infinix is trying to solve at MWC 2025 by showcasing some smartphone concepts. One of those concepts is a smartphone that uses solar charging. We already covered the interesting tri-fold phone that the company showcased.
Solar-powered concept
Infinix, much like Lenovo, is developing a device that runs on solar energy. The company showed off its SolarEnergy-Reserving Technology. This involves a smartphone that can recharge itself using ambient lighting—think lights in your office, home, or bedroom. Unlike traditional solar charging that requires direct sunlight, this does not. This means that you don’t need to remain outdoors to take full advantage of this charging technology.
Infinix is also integrating AI into the technology, by fine-tuning the power acquisition algorithm in real-time for more efficient energy storage. Infinix calls this “Sunflower” technology, which is inspired by heliotropic plants that can naturally orient towards light. Basically, the system will dynamically adjust the transmission path based on lighting conditions within a 3m range. The company estimates that future versions will extend the range and its precision.
However, don’t get too excited just yet. This is merely a concept so we don’t know how efficient it is in real-life, or if Infinix has plans to actually incorporate it into a future device. But this isn’t the first time we’re seeing companies explore the idea of using solar energy to charge our mobile devices.
Other fun concepts
In addition to a concept smartphone that charges using solar energy, Infinix showcased its E-Color Shift 2.0. The company actually showed off the original concept back at MWC 2024. For those unfamiliar, Infinix showed off a concept phone that had a color-changing back. Version 2.0 is basically an expansion of that. One of the main differences is that it can run on your phone’s battery. The previous version only worked when the phone is plugged into its charger. According to Infinix, E-Color Shift 2.0 uses AI to help users personalize their device’s appearance.
This concept is similar to the Glyphs on the Nothing Phone series. The colors and modules can change and shift according to certain events on your phone. This includes things like the weather, surroundings, wallpapers, and more. It’s a fun concept, but rather novel. Most of us use phone cases so we’re not sure if this really has a place in today’s smartphone world.
