Huawei Pura 80 Ultra: Teardown Exposes A Camera Designed Like No Other

Huawei recently introduced its latest Pura series high-end smartphones, including the Pura 80, 80 Pro, 80 Pro+, and Pura 80 Ultra. Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra is the most interesting of the lot with its interesting camera design, which has two telephoto lenses sharing a single camera sensor. Huawei has already shared some details regarding the interesting camera setup. A Chinese tipster has now posted a teardown video of the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, revealing its complex camera design and more.

Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra teardown shows layered camera module full of components

The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra’s teardown video shows the unique periscope camera module, apart from revealing all the internals of the phone. As per the source, the Pura 80 Ultra is a piece of sophisticated art, which not only offers a beautiful design but also is very durable.

In the video, it took a lot of effort for the tipster to dismantle the dual-lens telephoto camera module of the phone. The camera module has a fine layering of several mini components that allows for the two lenses to share the large 1/1.28-inch periscope telephoto sensor. As seen in the video, the Pura 80 Ultra has durable, ultra-precision, dual-optical-path movable tech, which ensures the two lenses remain stable while switching positions.

Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra takes a different approach to the variable telephotos in some of the Sony Xperia flagship phones. Sony’s devices use a single lens with a movable periscopic structure to change the zoom distance.

Huawei is still using an old chip to power the phone

Huawei didn’t reveal the name of the chipsets powering the latest Pura series smartphones. However, the teardown reveals that the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra utilizes the Kirin 9020 chip. Earlier reports indicated that the company would power the phone with a new Kirin 9030 flagship processor.

The video did reveal that the firm is using a new packaging technology for the Kirin 9020 SoC inside the Pura 80 Ultra. But it’s not clear if it helps deliver a better performance. The brand did suggest that the chips inside the Pura 80 series are 36% faster than their Pura 70 counterparts.

Huawei’s new Pura series phones will be available to consumers in China first. Last year, the company released the Pura 70 series internationally a few weeks after its debut in China. We’ll have to wait and see if the same will happen this year too.
