In addition to images and Audio Overviews, the Gemini app can now generate short video clips, and here’s how best to prompt Veo 2.
Open the model picker and select “Veo 2” in the Gemini web or mobile app. All you have to do is “Describe your video,” but Google has some more specific recommendations across three areas.

While aimed at developers, these tips apply to all users: “Think of your prompt as a set of instructions – the more detailed and precise you are, the closer the final product will be to what you imagined.”
- Clarity: Avoid vague terms and general descriptions.
- Detail: The more information you provide, the richer and more nuanced the generated video will be.
Specifically, your prompt should include:
- Visual keywords
- Subject: What is the primary focus of the video?
- Action: What is happening in the scene? Is the subject moving, interacting with something, or static?
- Setting: Where is the scene taking place? What is the environment like?
- Camera Angle/Movement: Is it a close-up, wide shot, or a dynamic tracking shot?
- Lighting: How is the scene lit? Is it bright and sunny, or dark and moody?
- Style/Mood: What is the overall feeling or aesthetic you want to convey? (e.g., elegant, futuristic, naturalistic)
The process takes 1-2 minutes before Veo 2 creates the eight-second videos in 16:9 (landscape) at 720p resolution. You can download it as an MP4 file or by getting a g.co/gemini/share/ link. Each frame features a SynthID digital watermark.
Currently available for Gemini Advanced subscribers, there’s a monthly limit. Google will notify users when they’re approaching it.
Veo 2 in the Gemini app started rolling out globally in April.
Some example prompts include:
- “small puppy running through a garden filled with thick snow in the early morning sun”
- “a kitten being introduced to the beach, specifically near the water, and then getting surprised as a wave crashes nearby”
- “Aerial shot of a grassy cliff onto a sandy beach where waves crash against the shore, a prominent sea stack rises from the ocean near the beach, bathed in the warm, golden light of either sunrise or sunset, capturing the dramatic elevation change and the serene beauty of the Pacific coastline.”
