A Discord ID differs from your Discord account username. It contains a unique 18-digit string that doesn’t change. Discord IDs publicly identify individual users, messages, Discord servers, and channels. This step-by-step guide shows how to copy and paste a Discord ID from your trusty Android tablet, phone, computer, and iOS-supported devices.

Why use Discord IDs to track accounts and content
Identifying Discord users using a Discord username is easier, but the method isn’t perfect. Users can change their account name (username), Discord server nickname, and Display Name.
Display Names are what others see when they visit your Discord profile, DM you, and interact with you on a server.
Discord IDs, unique 18-digit codes tied to an account, are used to get around losing track of Discord users. Since everything (users, messages, channel names, servers) has a hidden unique ID, these codes offer a uniform way to locate content and keep you informed. Discord bots often use Discord IDs for Discord bot permissions to manage Discord accounts and channels.

How to find your Discord user ID
Compared to Discord usernames, finding your Discord ID might not be as intuitive. The option is hidden by default and requires enabling developer mode. The steps below explain how to locate and copy IDs for any user. Follow these steps to copy server IDs, message IDs, and channel IDs.
Finding Discord IDs using a Windows computer or a web browser
The steps below are performed using the Windows desktop application. You can also apply these steps using the desktop app on a Mac or in your browser.
Open the Discord app or the Discord homepage in your web browser.
Click the gear icon by your Discord profile at the bottom to access your user settings.
Select Advanced under App Settings in the left panel.
Toggle on Developer Mode in the Advanced settings.
Return to your settings, select My Account, click the three-dot icon next to your Discord username, and select Copy User ID.
Alternatively, copy the ID by right-clicking a user found on a Discord server. To copy IDs for messages, servers, and channels, right-click a Discord server, channel name, or message and choose the copy option.
Copying Discord IDs on the Discord mobile app is as simple as the web version and desktop app. We walk you through how to grab the 18-digit code using the Discord mobile app. For this method to work, you must turn on the developer settings in the Discord app.
We use the most up-to-date Discord app on an Android phone. The steps are the same for other devices. Tablet and iPhone users can still follow along.
Launch the Discord app.
Double-tap your Discord user profile icon and select App Settings > Advanced.
Toggle on Developer Mode.
Return to Discord, long tap your user profile (listed on a Discord server), and select the three-dot icon.
Choose Copy User ID. To copy IDs for Discord servers, channels, and messages, tap and hold the names or messages to copy the ID.

The benefits of Discord user IDs
Identifying a user through Discord IDs is more foolproof than other methods. Discord Display Names are constantly changing. As a result, it’s confusing to differentiate between multiple people. Even if you decide to uninstall Discord for a short time, you can find a user or a message again with their unique 18-digit ID.
