Elon Musk-led AI company, xAI, has finally launched the Grok AI chatbot app for Android users. The launch comes nearly three weeks after xAI launched a standalone Grok app for iOS and iPadOS. Although the Google Play Store currently lists the Grok app, you can’t download it just yet.
xAI finally launched the Grok Android app, but it isn’t available to download right away
If you want to use the Grok Android app whenever it is available, you have to pre-register for now. Once xAI makes the app available in your region, it will be automatically installed on your Android smartphone or tablet. Similar to iPhone and iPad versions, the Grok app will be free to use.
What’s nice is that you can access all its features without having to log in via an account. For those expecting a personalized experience or want to link your X (FKA Twitter) account, there’s always an option to log in. If you are wondering about the features, here’s what’s coming.
For starters, the Grok Android app will let you generate AI images using text prompts. Besides, you can initiate a conversation with the AI chatbot and it will provide your text-based responses. The app will also be at your service even if you’re looking for any kind of real-time information.
ChatGPT and Gemini will finally have some competition
It’s worth noting that xAI’s Grok 2 AI model powers the Android version of the Grok app. To catch you up, that’s a similar model that powers the iOS and iPad versions of the app as well as free and premium web versions.
The availability of the Grok app on Android and iOS makes it an alternative option for anyone who has been using OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini AI for quite some time. All that said, it’ll be interesting to see what Android users have to say about the AI app of the world’s richest person.
