Google’s Prototype Android XR Glasses Get Face Time At TED2025

It’s no secret that Google and Samsung are working hard to release Android XR devices powered by all of the advances made in Gemini and other AI models. Google’s chosen form factor is a pair of glasses, while Samsung is developing something akin to the Apple Vision Pro. The Android XR-powered glasses have little detail backing up their release, but it was recently seen sported by Android XR’s head during a public event.

Google has been working on an Android XR glasses project for some time, though little is known about when the product will launch. That supposedly comes after Project Moohan is set to become a reality — a pair of XR goggles developed by Samsung. Both products have been demoed and gazed upon by our team, but they still carry a lot of mystery.

During the beginning of the TED2025 event in Vancouver, Android XR head Shahram Izadi gave a talk on Android XR (via Axios). Izadi didn’t need to ask viewers to imagine the concept; rather, he was able to help them by wearing the Android XR glasses himself in pain sight. If unmentioned, it would take keen eyes to notice that he was wearing something capable of integrating Gemini into daily life.

The glasses look no different than the prototype images we’ve seen, though we weren’t able to take our own images in previous demos.

Demos for the crowd included a couple of familiar features for the glasses. Farsi was translated into English during the demo, as was image recognition and showcasing the link between Android devices and glasses. According to Axios, Samsung’s XR headset was also shown off, with a focus on multiple-window multitasking and VR video.

The event didn’t reveal any further release dates, and when Google or Samsung plans on releasing these Android XR products is still very much in the air.
