Google’s AI Mode Is Here To Kill The Old Search Bar

Google has dropped the waitlist for AI Mode, and it is now available to anyone over 18 years, in the US. The company launched the Gemini-powered search feature in March to take on its rivals like ChatGPT Search. As Google is expanding the availability of AI Mode, it has also introduced one-tap search on Android and iOS.

You can now search in Google’s AI Mode with just one tap

Previously, you had to see an introductory homepage when launching AI Mode from the shortcut below the Search bar in the Google app or widget. From there, you had to touch the “Ask AI Mode” field to start typing. Well, that’s a thing from the past now.

9to5Google reports that opening AI Mode now takes you to the text input box with the keyboard option, where you can search for anything. In the new interface, you can only see the “G” logo and the close button. That’s not all; the suggested queries carousel disappears as soon as you start typing.

Sadly, you can’t quickly access conversation history as the previous homepage is no longer available. However, the outlet says that Google will soon offer direct access right from the text field. The one-tap search in AI Mode is now live on both Google for Android and iOS.

On iOS, you’ll come across a cool animation as soon as you tap the AI Mode button. Now, the usual Search field spreads across the entire screen with the keyboard popping up. In the meantime, you can see a four-color glow around, which is pleasing to the eyes. You can check out the animation in the video embedded below. For now, there’s no such animation on Android, though. In an announcement blog post from yesterday, Google also detailed many other changes made to AI Mode.
