Google Wallet Losing PayPal Integration In US, Accounts ‘deleted’ On June 13

Google Wallet is losing its integration with PayPal later this month, with users in the US already unable to link new accounts, and soon to have their accounts “deleted” from the app entirely.

On a support page, Google has issued a notice that PayPal integration in Wallet is going away. “Starting June 13,” users with PayPal linked to Google Wallet will no longer be able to use that integration for in-store payments. Google had already stopped allowing new users to link a PayPal account back in April of this year, and that’s following an outage earlier this year.

Google says:

Starting June 13, 2025, if you have a PayPal account linked to your Google Wallet app, you will no longer be able to use it for payments. Linked PayPal accounts will be automatically deleted and no longer supported.

PayPal support was first added back when “Android Pay” branding was still in effect, way back in 2017.

On the same page, Google implies that this isn’t a choice it made, with PayPal rather being the instigator as Google says that users should “refer to the email sent from PayPal” for more information on the change. Android Authority further points out that, in Germany, PayPal has added contactless payment support through its Android app, and this change in Wallet could simply be a precursor to larger changes from PayPal. This certainly seems related, as Google’s support page specifically calls out Germany as the “only” place this is supported.

Linking a PayPal account as a payment method to your Google Wallet app is only supported in Germany.

The PayPal Debit Mastercard can still be added to Wallet in the US and other regions, though, if users wish to continue using PayPal for in-store transactions.

Notably, this also comes just a year after PayPal in Wallet support was extended to Wear OS.
