Following Talk Live about this, Gemini Live is getting a model update that will “make your conversations even more dynamic and engaging.”
In an email to some Live users today, Google says it is “starting to roll out updates to Gemini.” An unspecified “latest model” is credited as allowing Gemini Live to “better understand multiple languages, dialects, or accents” during a conversation. It can also “help with your translation needs.”
With Gemini 2.0, Google introduced a Multimodal Live API for developers that can process text, audio, and video input, while outputting text and audio. You can see a demo below, and those capabilities are presumably being leveraged for Gemini Live.
The email also makes note of “screen sharing and live video streaming capabilities” coming to the Gemini app, which Google already showed off with Astra.
As part of this “improved experience,” Gemini will be storing your audio, video, and screenshares in Gemini Apps Activity. With the current experience, Gemini Live just stores and processes “transcripts of your Live chats.”
The current privacy support (from December 2024) notes how: “Live voice and audio data is not saved to Google servers at this time. We’ll be transparent about any changes.”
“Google is starting to roll out updates to Gemini to make your conversations even more dynamic and engaging.
Gemini Live is a more natural way to have free-flowing voice conversations with Gemini on your phone. With our latest model, Live can better understand multiple languages, dialects, or accents in a single Live chat and help with your translation needs. In the coming months, we’ll also bring screen sharing and live video streaming capabilities to Live.
Your data is processed per the Gemini Apps Privacy Notice. As part of providing this improved experience, your audio, video, and screenshares are stored in your Gemini Apps Activity (if it’s on). Your data in Gemini Apps Activity is deleted per your auto-delete period in that setting, and you can manage and delete your Gemini Apps activity anytime. Learn more in the Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.”
