Google TV Just Removed A Bunch Of Its Free Channels

Google TV has built out an impressive collection of free channels that require no accounts or downloads to be viewed, but the platform has just removed several of those channels.

After hitting a height of 171 channels as of late 2024, Google TV Freeplay has dropped nine of its channels, dropping down to 162 in total.

Since Google started building out what has become the Freeplay library, removals have been exceedingly rare. When they have happened, the company hasn’t removed more than a couple of channels at a time. This removal of 9 channels at once is the biggest purge to date for Google TV Freeplay and, surprisingly, none of the removed channels are from the late-2024 additions that were largely holiday-specific.

Removals include:

  • The Hill TV
  • Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan
  • Dove Channel
  • Comedy Dynamics
  • The Bob Ross Channel
  • Shades of Black
  • OutTV Proud
  • Dazn Ringside
  • Dazn Women’s Football

Most of these channels were added in 2024. In fact, almost all of these were added in a single batch back in September, suggesting that a deal struck by Google may have fallen through. Cinedigm operates The Bob Ross Channel, The Dove Channel, and the Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan channel. The company doesn’t put out a specific list of channels that it operates, but we also found references to Cinedigm with Shade of Black, Comedy Dynamics, and others.

It’s unclear whether or not any of these channels will return.
