Google Search Adds New ‘Block Breaker’ Game

Google Search is home to a number of built-in tools and Easter Eggs, with a new “Block Breaker” game being the most recent addition.

Searching “Block Breaker” on any platform will reveal a new game card. Tapping “Play” loads the fullscreen experience, which takes after Atari’s Breakout.

Google’s version sees four rows of blocks in the company colors of blue, red, yellow, and green. Some are harder to break, while others unlock extra balls, a longer paddle, “TNT,” dual blasters in a Space Invaders homage, and other fun curiosities. You can get extra lives in addition to the three you start with.

Your score is noted at the top, with four more rows appearing after you complete each round. It’s muted by default, but you can tap the volume icon for sound effects.

On mobile, you can move the paddle by direct manipulation or tapping, while it’s the left/right arrow keys on desktop (where you can make the window bigger).

This appears to have been a recent creation that joins other Games & Toys: Memory game, Tic tac toe, Earth Day quiz, Fun facts, Spin a dreidel, Solitaire, Snake, Emoji kitchen, PAC-MAN, Minesweeper, and Animal Sounds. This is in addition to Tools like: Calculator, Tuner, Roll a die, Color picker, Flip a coin, Meditate, Spinner, and Metronome that are always handy in a pinch.

Block Breaker is available on the desktop and mobile web, as well as the Google app on Android and iOS.
