Google is now rolling out Wear OS 5.1 to all Pixel Watch owners with a new April 2025 update today.
Based on Wear OS 5.1 and Android 15, BP1A.250305.019.W8 (versus BP1A.250305.019.W7) is rolling out to the Pixel Watch 1, 2, and 3. The Android security update level remains March 5, 2025 after installing.
There are two entries in the release notes:
- For those users on the March & the initial April release version: Resolves an issue where some reported receiving a step count in certain scenarios that was higher than expected, by reverting the step algorithm enhancements to the original step algorithm for all users.
- For those users on the November 2024 release version: Changes as outlined within March 2025 Release, including Wear OS 5.1, additional features, and bug fixes (excluding the step algorithm enhancements that have been removed from this release).
Some users did not receive the original March OTA and are still on a November 2024 release (Wear OS 5 based on Android 14). Today’s update addresses that, but without the “step algorithm enhancements.” That was supposed to improve step tracking when jogging with a stroller, pushing a shopping cart or wheelchair, and hiking with poles.

Meanwhile, those that received the “initial” April update earlier this month are getting a new OTA today that reverts the aforementioned step algorithm change since “some reported receiving a step count in certain scenarios that was higher than expected.”
Tapping the “Your watch is up to date” screen (Settings > System > System updates) multiple times initiates the download. To speed up the process, open Connectivity preferences and disable Bluetooth to force Wi-Fi.
