Google Reminds Pixel Watch Owners That You Can Transfer To A New Phone

Google is reminding Pixel Watch owners about the transfer function available in Wear OS for when they switch to a new smartphone.

Introduced in Wear OS 4, first on Galaxy Watch and later on Pixel Watch, Google added the ability to “transfer” your Wear OS smartwatch over from one smartphone to another without requiring a factory reset. This comes in handy as our smartwatches and their apps have become more capable and as Wear OS has become a little less dependent on your phone. Instead of starting from scratch with you get a new phone, you can bring everything along with you.

In a new post, though, Google is reminding users about the ability to transfer a Pixel Watch.

The company explains that “you’ll be back to tracking steps, notifications, and more in no time.”

Upgrading to a new phone is exciting, but don’t forget your Pixel Watch. It won’t recognize your new device just yet. However, with a quick setup and without the need to reset your Watch or lose data and saved settings, you’ll be back to tracking steps, notifications, and more in no time.

  1. Kickstart the transfer: To tell your watch you’re moving, find the “Transfer watch” option in your Pixel Watch’s System settings or the Pixel Watch app on your old phone.
  2. Prepare your new phone: Install the Google Pixel Watch app on your new phone, and turn both Bluetooth and Location on so your phone can find your watch.
  3. Pair your Pixel Watch: Open the Pixel Watch app and follow the on-screen instructions. Keep your watch and phone close together so they can easily connect.
  4. Confirm and connect: When a pairing code appears, make sure it matches on both devices, then confirm the connection.
  5. Sign in and sync: Use your Google Account to restore your settings and preferences, and you’re good to go!

The functionality itself here, again, isn’t new. But Google’s reminder serves as a new go-to for users who may not have used it before.

Google also somewhat acknowledges that the transfer function in Wear OS doesn’t always work reliably, saying that users can “try restarting both devices and giving it another go” if “things don’t go smoothly.”
