Google today widely rolled out version 9.7.047.702121536.18 of Pixel Camera, but it’s just a smaller patch update.
The main Pixel Camera 9.7 update rolled out in December 2024 as part of the Feature Drop. Google this week released version 9.7.047.710329721.21 (versus 9.7.047.702121536.18) via the Play Store.
There are no obvious user-facing changes that we noticed today, so it’s presumably a bug fixer. Chime in below if you had any outstanding issues resolved.
Version 9.7 introduced Quick access controls that add sliders for white balance, brightness, and shadows to the left/right side of the viewfinder after a tap. This is the previous UI before the redesign that placed everything in a bottom sheet/slider. You have to enable it from the settings menu.
Officially, Quick access controls were not mentioned in the Pixel Feature Drop. Rather, the camera aspect of that update was just about the Pixel Fold getting Made You Look, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold got a new Joy character from “Inside Out.” Both foldables picked up Dual Screen Portrait Mode to take advantage of the form factor.
Outside of the Pixel Camera app, the Instagram viewfinder picked up Ultra HDR, and Snapchat gained support for the system Photo Picker.
A bigger Camera update could come as early as the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop.
