Google Pixel 9a Camera Specs

The Google Pixel 9a has a few pretty interesting camera changes this year. First off, the primary sensor has been changed to a 48-megapixel with a 1/2″ sensor size. That means it is smaller and has less resolution than the Pixel 8a. Though we’re going to reserve judgement on that camera and photo quality until we can actually get our hands on a unit.
The primary camera also sports a f/1.7 aperture and a 82-degree field of view. It’s definitely a weird change for Google. Especially with the ultrawide remaining the same, yet again. It is a 13-megapixel f/2.2 aperture camera with a 1/3.1″ sensor size. That’s roughly the same size as the 3x telephoto lens on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Many believe that the reason for the change in camera this year is so that Google could make the back of the phone flush. Despite it being just as thick as last year’s Pixel 8a (not counting the camera bar).
Meanwhile, the front-facing camera is a 13-megapixel f/2.2 aperture sensor. It’s actually the exact same size as the ultrawide sensor, with a smaller field of view.
Google also brings some “Flagship” camera features down to their budget model
With Google, the camera isn’t just about the specs, as it also brings a lot of features to the table. Including Super Res Zoom, so you can now do up to 8x zoom and it still looks pretty good. This is not optical zoom, however. So keep that in mind. The popular Add Me feature that debuted with Pixel 9 series last year is also here, allowing you to add yourself into your group shots. Google is also, surprisingly, bringing Macro Focus to the Pixel 9a, and it’s using the primary camera, versus the ultrawide.
Additionally, Google is bringing Night Sight, Astrophotography, Portrait Mode, Face Unblur, Long Exposure, Real Tone, Panorama, Top Shot, and Frequent Faces. It’s also bringing many editing features like Magic Editor, Auto Frame, Reimagine, Magic Eraser, Best Take, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light.
The Pixel 9a is going to be available in April for $499 (or $599 for 256GB).
