Google Photos’ Faces Feature Could Get A Useful Upgrade

Google has long been able to recognize faces. It can keep track of who’s in your photos and organize them based on that. However, accessing the faces has always been a pain. According to a new report, it seems that Google Photos will make it easier to see the faces in your photos.
Most of the time, we don’t really care about who’s in a photo, but if you’re looking to track down pictures with specific people in them, the feature can come in handy. Well, accessing the people in your pictures is a bit tedious in the app. You have to select the photo and swipe up to see the face in the panel. Not exactly the hardest thing to do, but it’s just an extra step that could be eliminated.
Google could make accessing faces a bit easier
Those of you who are closely monitoring the number of swipes you make a day may want to look out for this feature. There’s no guarantee that this feature will launch, as it was discovered through an APK deep dive. The folks at Android Authority found code hidden within version 7.26 of the Google Photos app. Google hasn’t officially announced this feature, so you’ll want to take this news cautiously.
According to the report, it looks like Google could start displaying the faces in a photo in the photo’s main view. Looking at the screenshot below, we see that the faces will live in a little carousel at the bottom of the screen. It will sit right above the Share, Edit, Add to, and Trash buttons.
This isn’t the biggest update, but it’s a nice little quality of life feature. Google hasn’t announce it, but there’s a chance that the company could bring it up during Google I/O. That event is set to happen rather soon, and we expect Google to stockpile some announcements for it. For all we know, Google could announce this feature along with some other Google Photos features.
