Google Home Keeps Asking Nest Hub Max Users To Set Up New Features That Don’t Exist

Summary
- Google Home app prompting to set up nonexistent Nest Hub Max features.
- Bug present for weeks, users unable to proceed or report the issue.
- Google began camera controls migration last year; unclear why prompts are appearing now.
Google Home has been exhibiting an odd bug. As tweeted by Android Police founder and perennial lightning rod for Google trouble Artem Russakovskii, the Home app is asking users to set up new Nest Hub Max features that don’t seem to exist, and the app isn’t letting users report the issue to Google.
The issue seems to have been ongoing for some time: Artem links to a weeks-old thread on the Google Home subreddit where a handful of users cite the same issue. When opening the Google Home app, some users who have a Nest Hub Max configured in Google Home are seeing a prompt to “Set up new Nest Cam features for Nest Hub Max.” After tapping a button labeled “Get started,” they’re taken to a page labeled “Choose a device” that doesn’t list any devices to choose.
I’ve seen the Nest Cam features message in the Google Home app, too, but not consistently. AP News Editor Dallas Thomas is seeing the same as recently as today in version 3.30.1.16 of the app (you can see his screenshots above).
Not a significant issue, but still odd
Google began letting users migrate camera controls from the legacy Nest app to Google Home in November of last year; it’s not clear why these prompts are appearing now. Artem says that trying to report the behavior to Google from the Google Home app results in an error. If you’re seeing the same Nest Camera message in Google Home, you can safely ignore it — it doesn’t seem like there are actually any new features to set up.
