The Google Home app is finally adding the ability to double-tap to quick seek through camera history. This is currently part of the Public Preview program.

Update 3/19: Google has rolled this out with Home 3.30 on Android and iOS. Double-tap now rewinds or fast forwards 10 seconds, with pinch-to-zoom being how you enlarge the frame. This is still in Public Preview.

Original 2/19: At the moment, double-tap in Google Home’s camera history view just zoomed in on the video, with the gesture eventually zooming you out. You had to long-press and slide the scrubber to move through a clip.

Google is now adding a 10-second quick seek to “navigate your camera history faster.” This is more granular and matches the behavior of every other video player.

  • Double-tap on the right side of the video playback window to go forward.
  • Double-tap on the left side of the video playback window to go backward.

You’ll presumably still be able to zoom by pinching in/out.

Camera history quick seek is first coming to the Public Preview program, though it’s not yet appearing on Android and iOS devices/accounts we checked this afternoon. This is a very straightforward capability and will make for a nice quality-of-life improvement.
