Google Home App Finally Adding More Nest X Yale Lock Controls 'later This Year'

While new units are no longer being made, Google has announced that new controls for the Nest x Yale Lock will be coming to the Google Home app soon.

Last week, Google announced that it would stop making the Nest x Yale Lock and Nest Protect. The smart deadbolt, built in collaboration with Yale, first launched in 2018 and has been sold ever since for $279+. As Google has moved away from the Nest app, the company proceeded to add Nest x Yale to the Home app in 2020. While it often felt like the product had been forgotten, Google has just announced renewed support.

In an FAQ regarding its “changes to our device portfolio,” Google revealed that the Nest x Yale Lock will be getting further controls and features in the Google Home app.

Google says:

You can continue to manage your Nest x Yale Lock in either the Nest app or Google Home app. Later this year, passcode management and other features for Nest x Yale Lock will arrive in the Google Home app for the first time.

The company directly calls out passcode management here, but that’s far from the only thing missing. As it stands today, the Google Home app can only control lock/unlock status, device name and placement in Google Home, lock tone volume, and one touch locking.
