Google Drive is getting a new update that will introduce a new analytics section.
The analytics section will allow authors to see view counts for content on Google Drive.
It’s available now for Rapid Release, and rolling out to all starting June 9, 2025.
Despite Google doing a pretty good job keeping most of its products up to date, there are some that get less attention, like Google Voice and Google Drive. However, the latter has seen more attention over the past year, with Google delivering some noteworthy updates that improve the overall experience on desktop and mobile.

One of the biggest changes to Drive that we’ve seen is the improvements made to the video player. While most people will use the platform to save documents and images, some use the service to store precious video and audio files. With that said, it looks like Google is introducing another change to its video player experience, with a new analytics section.
We know how important analytics can be when it comes to delivering insights into how folks are consuming your content, but adding this to Google Drive doesn’t seem to be all that big of a game-changer. Despite this, Google is touting this new feature as something that was “highly requested.”
As far as what can be seen with this new feature, well, it’s pretty bare bones at this point. Google Drive will now let you know how many times your content has been viewed. Yes, that’s it. And if you were expecting more, you might be disappointed. You won’t get the full breakdown that YouTube offers its creators, but this is something that could be fleshed out to be more complete in the future.
As far as how this can be seen, the author will be able to dive into the detail section of a shared video, and pop into the new Analytics section in order to see the view count. While it is already available for those on Rapid Release domains, it will begin rolling out in full to Scheduled Release domains starting on June 9, 2025.
Again, nothing to really get excited about considering that the new feature doesn’t really provide a lot of details. But this is something that could gain a lot more traction if Google puts some effort into it. What kinds of things would you like to see in the Analytics section of Google Drive?
