Google Could Bless Pixel Users With A Pretty Ancient Feature

While both major mobile operating systems have their strengths and weaknesses, Android remains the most customizable of the two. According to a new report, Google is planning to release a new customization feature that has actually been around for quite some time. Google may release themes for Pixel owners.
If you’re not too familiar with how Android works, this may be a bit confusing. Themes are a pretty ancient feature for Android. Famously, Samsung had a large theme store for its phones, and even LG had a decent collection. Nowadays, most Android OEMs have a dedicated theme store for their phones. However, these themes aren’t a core Android feature. They are specific to phones from each manufacturer.
Google could bring themes to Pixel phones
Right now, you will want to take this news with a grain of salt. It was discovered via an APK deep dive performed by Android Authority. As such, the feature is still in development, and there’s no guarantee that Google will launch it. We will just have to wait and see.
The feature popped up in the latest Android 16 QPR 1 beta 1 build. When activated, you will see a new themed button under the wallpaper and styles settings. However, that’s where the story ends. Tapping on the button at the moment attempts to open an app that does not exist. The app is called Pixel Customization Packs.
Though there was no direct description of this feature, the fact that it’s named Themes, and the fact that it tries to open an app called Pixel Customization Packs, lets us know that you will most likely be able to apply pre-made themes to the software. We’re sure that it will be reminiscent of other theme stores that apply an icon pack, wallpaper, color scheme, font, and other customizations to the software.
It’s nothing innovative, but it’s still something nice to have. Google has introduced several customization features to stock Android over the years, and the ability to apply themes would make it that much better. We don’t know when we’ll see more of it, but it may pop up in future Android 16 releases.
