Google Clock ‘Timer Starter’ Widget Comes To Pixel Phones

Last year, Google’s Clock app introduced a Timer Starter widget for the Pixel Tablet, and it’s now available on phones with Android 15 QPR2.

Timer Starter was ostensibly released to showcase the Pixel Tablet’s lockscreen widgets capability in Android 15 QPR1. It appears as one of the default options. As far as we can tell, there was only one report of it appearing on a phone last August.

As of Google Clock 7.10, which is the current stable available to all Android users via the Play Store, this new widget does not appear on phones.

Android 15 QPR2’s stable release today updates the Clock app to version 7.12 on Pixel phones and enables the Timer Starter widget. (It appeared earlier in the beta cycle.)

The widget ranges from 1×1 to taking up your entire homescreen. The default list configuration shows your last three timers and the ‘plus’ to create a new one. Selecting an increment opens Clock to the Timer tab and starts the countdown.

If you let the widget span the entire width of your screen, you get some fun Material 3 shapes. This widget is highly resizable and a model Android widget in many ways.

It joins the Clock app’s five other widgets: World, Analog, Digital, Stacked, and Stopwatch.

Again, version 7.12 of Google Clock is not yet available in the Play Store, and it’s unclear when a wider release for all Android devices is coming. Updating the app via a full OS update is strange.
