We’ve always been advised to change our passwords every now and then, even though the world is slowly phasing them out. However, since just about everything requires an account nowadays, it can be tough to keep them all updated. Have no fear, as Google Chrome might be able to change your passwords automatically.
It’s important to know that this feature isn’t available to the public just yet. It’s still in testing, so there’s no telling when Google will launch it. Also, there’s a chance that the company can cancel it altogether. So, take this information with a grain of salt.
An X user, @Leopeva64, discovered code pointing to this feature. No, Chrome won’t change your password all willy-nilly. When Google detects that one of your passwords was involved in a data breach, the browser will offer the change the password when you sign in. So, you won’t have to worry about randomly finding your password changed.
Rather, when your password is compromised, Google will prompt you and ask you if you want it to change your password automatically. When it changes your password, it will then automatically update it in the Google Password Manager. Since Chrome automatically updates the Password Manager, you won’t need to remember your password.
Google makes a point to state that this is an AI feature, and it’s experimental. As such, you can’t rule out the possibility of seeing a bug. The browser has already had a feature like this for a couple of years. However, the whole process is a bit more streamlined this time around. It requires fewer steps from the user.
At this point, we don’t know when Google is going to release this feature to the public. Hopefully, it does, as this is a feature that can come in very handy. Companies are getting hacked all the time, and it’s tough to keep up with all of the breaches. Having a tool that can change your password and update it in the Google Password Manager will help keep people just a little bit safer.
