Summary
- Google Chat on Android could soon get Gemini features for better collaboration, as found in an APK teardown.
- Gemini features in Chat include summarizing long conversations and answering questions among others.
- Message scheduling is also coming to Chat, allowing for sending messages at specific dates and times.
Google Chat’s strongest suit has to be its deep integration with Google’s various Workspace apps. That cross-platform collaboration often comes in handy when you’re deep into the Google ecosystem at your workplace. Back in October last year, Google Chat received a bunch of Gemini-powered features — though only on the web, leaving those with Android handsets waiting. Now, Google is finally preparing to bring those same Gemini features to Chat on Android, along with a long-awaited option to schedule messages.

On the web, Google Chat already supports several useful Gemini features, including the ability to summarize long conversations you might’ve missed while on vacation and answer specific questions about any thread. Gemini can even find out what actions you need to take from a chat, so you can get to work without scrolling through the entire conversation. These features are now on their way to the Android app as well, according to findings by Android Authority.
In an APK teardown, the outlet spotted signs of these Gemini additions coming to mobile — Google Chat is accessible inside the Gmail app for Android. The team was able to activate these features inside the Gmail app during their testing (screenshots included below). The Gemini icon is clearly visible in the top bar, while other screenshots show it in action — helping you catch up on conversations or respond to queries directly within the thread.

Message scheduling is coming to Google Chat
Google Chat has been getting a fair amount of attention from Google lately, with several new features rolling out, but one glaring omission has for long been message scheduling. That could change soon.
Android Authority also discovered a code string in the APK teardown indicating that message scheduling is on the horizon. The feature will allow you to schedule messages for specific dates and times, which is especially useful when you need to send something to a colleague in another time zone without waking them up at 3 AM. There will also be a dedicated section in Chat where you can view and manage all your scheduled messages.
Both the Gemini-powered features and message scheduling were uncovered in an APK teardown of the Gmail app, which means they’re not publicly available just yet. But considering how polished the Gemini experience already looks in testing, the official rollout for Android likely isn’t far off.
