Summary

  • Google Calendar is rolling out a new interface for event creation that prominently displays your connected calendars in a carousel on the main screen.
  • This update makes it much faster to add events to specific sub-calendars under your Google account, removing the need to navigate separate menus.
  • The new carousel layout is enabled by updating the app to version 2025.16.0 or newer builds, and it does not appear to be controlled by a server-side switch.

Earlier this year, Google was spotted working on a much-needed quality-of-life improvement for Google Calendar — an improvement that is widely rolling out now.

The change, which essentially streamlines event scheduling by highlighting all sub-calendars connected to your Google account directly on the event creation screen, is now available with Google Calendar version 2025-16.0 and all later-released builds.

For reference, previously, you had to tap through a separate menu (triggered by tapping your account) to select a sub-calendar other than the default ‘Events’ one. The new layout essentially eliminates the need to tap through, highlighting your sub-calendars in a carousel layout on the event creation screen, as seen in the first screenshot below. This is a huge boon for those who frequently manage multiple calendars under the same Google account.

The app also remembers which sub-calendar you used the last time, and automatically highlights it the next time you add an event, which is a small but useful touch.

The workflow for switching Google accounts remains the same — you still need to tap your email or the arrow right beside it to switch.

We can confirm that the carousel layout is tied to specific Google Calendar builds, and not a server-side switch. Versions 2025.15.1xx and below still highlight the old UI, while version 2025.16.0-749613736 and all later-released builds surface the new UI.

Simply updating to one of the newer builds via the Play Store (currently on version 2025.16.1 for me) or via an external source like APKMirror (version 2025.17.0) should enable the new carousel interface for you.
