Google Calculator 8.7 Rolling Out With A Spacing Tweak

On average, Google updates Android’s Calculator app once a year, and version 8.7 in 2025 makes just one straightforward change.

The only change we’ve noticed in Calculator 8.7 is how there’s more spacing between the last row of buttons and the gesture navigation bar.

In version 8.6.1, the gap was minimal and from afar it looked like the pill overlapped with the two circles above it. That’s no longer the case, with the display and buttons shrinking a tiny bit to account for that. It’s not really noticeable. 

Old vs. new

This applies to both the portrait and landscape (scientific) orientations. 

Google Calculator 8.7 is rolling out via the Play Store, but it’s not yet widely available. You can sideload it here.

This follows the last .1 patch a year ago, with Calculator — at this point – a pretty mature application. The last big major was in 2022 with a two-column UI on large-screen Android devices, as well as the convenient Quick Settings (QS) Tile to launch the app from anywhere. The Material You redesign arrived in 2021.
