Gems Are Now Available For Gemini Free Users On Android

As announced earlier this month, Gems are now available to Gemini free users on Android devices. Now, all Android users can either use premade Gems or create their own in Gemini. Free access to Gems comes after the release of Deep Research, people image generation, and document upload/analysis features earlier this year.

Gemini free users 18 & over can now access Gems on their Android phones/tablets

Google first introduced Gems in May 2024 as the customized versions of Gemini. The company first made them available to Gemini Advanced users later in August. Gems are free for all Gemini users (18 or over) on Android. First, the brand started offering them to free Gemini users on the web, and is now rolling out widely in the Android app.

For now, you can access Gems on your Android smartphone, but if you want to create a custom one, you’ll have to visit gemini.google.com on your computer. You can find these in the “Gems manager” in your account menu on your phone or in the side panel on the web.

What are Gems?

You can describe Gems as tools that allow you to create custom experts for any task within Gemini. Think of them like your army of artificial intelligence experts in specific fields. For example, you can create a custom Gem to help you gain weight. After creating a Gem, you can add customized instructions to it, set the tone of its responses, and more. You can feed it all the information about your goals and progress, so the AI assistant always knows what you want to achieve and where you’ve reached.

Gemini already offers five premade Gems, including Brainstormer, Career guide, Coding partner, Learning coach, and Writing editor. As their names suggest, they will help you with your specific requirements like unlocking your career potential, levelling up your coding skills, and more.

After Gems, Deep Research, people image generation, and document upload/analysis features, Google plans to introduce more advanced Gemini features to free users in the coming months, so stay tuned.
