Google confirmed that Gemini was replacing Assistant on watches last month. Gemini should arrive on Wear OS as a straightforward app update.
About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we’re able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We’ll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they’ll look in case that they do ship. With that in mind, read on.
We first saw signs that Gemini is replacing Google Assistant in January. Version 1.18.x of the “Assistant” app on Wear OS today features a slew of Gemini-related strings.

Gemini on Wear OS will continue to be activated by holding down the side button or saying the “Hey Google” hotword “anytime your watch is fully awake” (screen on).
Gemini is now on your watch - Get started with Gemini: Speak naturally and get more done with a personal AI assistant on your watch
- “You’re using Gemini on your phone and now it’s the assistant on your watch. To talk to Gemini, hold down the side button, or just say “Hey Google,” if you’ve turned on that setting.”
In terms of capabilities, the strings reveal how Gemini can “do things like set alarms and timers, message your contacts, and more.” That functionality is unchanged from Google Assistant, and it remains to be seen whether Gemini on your wrist can access more advanced capabilities like @Gmail, @Google Maps, etc.
The familiar “Gemini can make mistakes, including about people, so double-check it” warning will appear.
Location and Voice Match settings are unchanged, while the Wear OS Tile that lets you pin two commands/actions will also be there. At a Glance also appears to remain the same.
It remains to be seen when Google will launch Gemini on Wear OS. The company could be waiting for a flagship watch launch.

Thanks to JEB Decompiler, from which some APK Insight teardowns benefit.
