Gemini Live Finally Getting Real-Time Video & Screen Sharing

Project Astra was one of Google’s biggest Gemini-related announcements in recent years. It would bring multimodal capabilities to Gemini Live, making it even more functional and powerful. The company has taken its sweet time developing the improvements so everything works properly. Now, Gemini AI is finally getting real-time video and screen sharing features.
Google revealed some important updates at the latest MWC 2025. The company confirmed that Gemini’s multimodal capabilities were ready. The firm also said they would start reaching the AI-powered assistant in the coming weeks. The Mountain View giant is keeping its promise, according to recent reports.
Real-time video and screen sharing arriving to Google Gemini
A Redditor reported that the screen sharing feature popped out in Gemini when enabling Live mode. The user posted a video showing how the new option is now available as a suggestion chip above the search bar. Sharing your screen with Gemini Live will let you ask it questions in real time about what you’re currently viewing.
Google is also rolling out the long-awaited real-time video sharing with Gemini. This feature works similarly to screen sharing, but instead of analyzing what’s on your screen, it can answer questions about what the assistant is “seeing” through your phone’s camera. This month, Google showed off a potential use case for this feature. In the demo, a person asked Gemini for help choosing which paint color would be better for their home tiles.
Google spokesperson Alex Joseph confirmed to The Verge that both features are already arriving to Gemini. However, Google designed them as premium plan features. So, you’ll have to subscribe to a paid Gemini Advanced/Google AI tier to enjoy them.
Google remains far ahead of its competitors in mobile AI assistants
Gemini’s new features further establish Google’s leadership in the AI-powered smartphone assistant segment. Apple, which promised similar features some time ago, is struggling heavily during development. Currently, there’s no date for the arrival of Apple’s AI-powered Siri improvements. Alexa Plus also recently arrived with the promise of similar functions in the future. That said, there’s no date yet for their rollout either.
