At MWC 2025, Google announced that Project Astra-powered live video and screen share capabilities in Gemini Live are rolling out “later this month.”

Upon launching the Gemini overlay on Android, you’ll see a new “Share screen with Live” button above the Ask Gemini text field. Tapping will share your screen to Gemini Live, with the new phone call-style notification in use. (Compared to the existing approach, you get a persistent pill with a live count next to the time that lets you immediately jump into the full UI.)

You can then ask questions about what’s on your screen and have a full back-and-forth conversation.

Meanwhile, launching the fullscreen Gemini Live will show a new video shortcut (next to screen share) that launches a live feed that takes up most of your display.

In a slight visual tweak, Google has shrunk the existing circular buttons for Hold and End into pill-shaped containers.

Google has been teasing these capabilities since last May at I/O 2024, and detailed new features powered by Gemini 2.0 in December. The last preview came in January with Samsung’s Galaxy S25 launch.

Google will be rolling out these new Gemini Live capabilities to “Gemini Advanced subscribers as part of the Google One AI Premium plan on Android devices later this month.” Those at MWC in Barcelona can demo these experiences today.
