Google Gemini has become the go-to default AI assistant for Android devices, and even though Android phones have recently integrated Gemini, earbuds from certain brands have been left out. According to Samsung and Google, that’s going to change rather soon with Gemini for Galaxy Buds 3 and Sony earbuds.
Google Assistant is further being pushed to the side. Samsung says that Gemini will be available for Galaxy Watches and Galaxy Buds 3 in the “coming months.” There are no further details on timing, so we can assume we’ll see it by the end of the year.
We expected this for the Galaxy Watch soon, which allows the wearables to be a little more capable. For instance, instead of getting basic but limited answers from Google Assistant, Gemini is able to deliver more natural and well-rounded responses and actions. Samsung gives the example of asking Gemini to remember where you stored a few items, allowing for easy recall later. Further, emails can be summarized right from the Galaxy Watch, which is something Google Assistant would not be able to accomplish.
Using voice or pinch and hold controls, Samsung notes that the Galaxy Buds 3 will also be able to use Gemini through your Galaxy phone. The same sort of actions can be accomplished with the Galaxy Buds using Gemini, except there will be no visual verification.
In a separate post, Google noted that earbuds from Sony would also be getting Gemini access. Details on which earbuds will get Google’s AI assistant are slim.
This comes as Google announced several new areas Google Gemini would be migrating to, including cars, TVs, and the Pixel Watch lineup.
While Samsung specifically notes the Galaxy Buds 3 series, there are no other specific models mentioned for the Watch and Buds lineups. The Galaxy Watch Ultra and 7 will certainly see Gemini, and we’re hopeful to see older models get the change.
