According to newly revealed details in a court hearing, Google’s Gemini AI has around 350 million monthly users, well below that of ChatGPT and even Meta AI.
As first reported by The Infortmation, an ongoing Google antitrust lawsuit included a slide with details regarding the active number of users for Gemini AI. The slide revealed that, as of March 2025, Gemini had 350 million monthly users worldwide, and 35 million daily users.
Those numbers represent considerable growth, with the same hearing also revealing that, in October 2024, Gemini’s user numbers were 9 million daily and 90 million monthly.
Google showed these figures in the context of the US Justice Department arguing that Google should be prevented from extending its search dominance into the AI field, but it’s clear that Google is currently the underdog here. Compared to these figures, OpenAI and Meta are beating out Google as it stands currently. TechCrunch brings out that Meta AI was nearing 500 million monthly users as of September 2024, while OpenAI recently said that its weekly active users top 400 million.
While the method of how these figures are calculated vary from company to company, this certainly suggests Google is well behind OpenAI in terms of users. However, it’s not clear if Google is counting Gemini integration into products such as Workspace apps and Gmail, which obviously have many more users.
