Following last week’s announcement, the Gemini app update that introduces an Android homescreen widget is widely rolling out.
There’s just one widget, but it’s highly resizable and features Dynamic Color. The first layout is a bar that looks a lot like the recently redesigned Google Keep and Drive widgets.
A sparkle icon at the left housed in a pill-shaped container opens the Gemini app and your keyboard. All other buttons are placed in a rounded rectangle, with Gemini Live being the next most important shortcut.
Expanding the widget adds speech-to-text and a button to launch the Gemini camera. The full 5×1 bar opens the system file picker and your gallery.
The other design is a search bar and grid with all six shortcuts. 2×2 is the smallest widget size, while the biggest is 5×3. Meanwhile, one amusing option is a tall 1×3 vertical layout.
This widget is rolling out with Gemini app 1.0.751104895 via the Google Play Store. After updating, long-press on the Gemini icon > Widgets to add to your homescreen. It’s available on Android 10 and newer.
