In addition to the iPhone, Google is rolling out a convenient Gemini homescreen widget for Android that follows Material 3.
This Material You-style widget with Dynamic Color theming is highly resizable. It can span from 1×1 to taking up most of your homescreen at 5×3. The description notes how you can: “Access Gemini in more ways faster. Get the most out of Google AI.”
In the bar configuration (which matches this month’s Google Keep redesign), the sparkle icon launches the app with the keyboard automatically open. This button is a vertical pill, with Gemini Live being the second-most important shortcut and housed in a rounded rectangle at the other end.
Next is the microphone to dictate your regular Gemini prompt out loud, while a camera shortcut opens the Gemini viewfinder to add an image to your request.
Other actions open the file picker to upload a document with a prompt, while there’s also a gallery shortcut for your images. The bar widget must span the entire width of your homescreen to show all six actions.
The square or rectangular shape presents the shortcuts in a grid with a “Gemini” or “Ask Gemini” search bar up top, while 2×2 is the smallest widget size here. At the largest size, the icons are accompanied by text labels
This is rolling out with version 1.0.751104895 of the Gemini (instead of Google) app via the Play Store. You can also sideload it here. After updating, long-press on the Gemini icon > Widgets to add to your homescreen.
The Gemini widget supports Android 10 and later. Google tells us that you can expect full availability in the coming week.
