Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition) Is Here To Be Your Coding Buddy

Google has launched the Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) ahead of schedule, lauding it for topping benchmarks, improved coding capabilities, web app development, and more. The new model is now available via Gemini’s API, Google’s Vertex AI, and AI Studio platforms. Interestingly, it costs similar to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model.

Google has surprised everyone with the early release of Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition), an improved model that has upgraded coding capabilities. It’s an upgraded version of the Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model, which beats similar other models on several benchmarks.

Google initially planned to launch Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview at the annual I/O event, but decided against it. That’s why the company cheekily calls it “I/O edition.” So what’s new? Well, a lot, at least according to the company.

Google, in its announcement blog post, notes that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) offers “significantly” improved coding capabilities. The latest AI model is also better at code editing, building interactive web apps, and handling tasks like code transformation.

Google also noted that the Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) stands at the top of the WebDev Arena Leaderboard. That’s a benchmark that tests an AI model’s ability to build some of the most aesthetically pleasing and working web apps.
