Galaxy Z Flip 6 & Z Fold 6 Get The January 2025 Update In The US
Just like Google, Samsung is giving its Galaxy phones the first patch of the year. As usual, the company is starting with its flagship phones, such as the Galaxy S24 series. The Android January 2025 security update is now arriving for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.
The South Korean giant launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in mid-2024 as its latest foldable phones. It is said that Samsung will launch an affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE this year to expand the presence of foldables among the public. The sales results of flexible screens at Samsung Display in 2024 were disappointing, and the firm wants to change that in the short and medium term.
Samsung rolling out the January 2025 update for Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6
The January 2025 security update is reaching the Galaxy Z Flip 6 (carrier-free and carrier-locked) and Galaxy Z Fold 6 (carrier-locked) in the United States. In the case of the Z Flip 6, the OTA has build numbers F741USQS2AXLF and F741U1UES2AXLF for the carrier-free and carrier-locked units, respectively. Meanwhile, the patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has the build number F956USQS2AXLG.
The January 2025 security patch for Galaxy devices fixes several vulnerabilities. Google contributed 29 fixes for issues related to Android’s core, including five of “Critical” severity. Meanwhile, Samsung Mobile included 22 fixes for vulnerabilities in its own hardware and software. According to the changelog, several of these exploits enabled remote execution of malicious code without prior authorization. The exploits affected Galaxy devices running Android 12, 13, and 14. One of the vulnerabilities even allowed third parties to change the victim’s notification settings.
You should receive a notification as soon as the update is available on your device. However, you can also check manually from Settings > Software update > Download and install. The carrier-free Galaxy Z Fold 6 will also likely start receiving the patch in the next few hours or days. This is probably the last update that Samsung flagship devices from 2024 will get before the arrival of One UI 7. More affordable models and older flagship phones will have to wait a few additional weeks—or months.
