Galaxy Watch 8 Might Have An Underwhelming, Just Barely Bigger Battery

The Galaxy Watch 8 is supposed to be Samsung’s next entry in the wearable space. With the past few series carrying a high battery capacity, a newly uncovered certification for the Galaxy Watch 8 series tells a different story, though it isn’t all that unexpected.

The Galaxy Watch 8 series is expected to be the two new entries to the series, coming after a stint of more durable designs in the Watch 5 Pro and Watch Ultra. The Classic model has always been a favorite, but it has never come with an incredible battery life.

According to a new report by XpertPick, battery certifications from SafetyKorea have been obtained. These reports indicate that the batteries for two models have passed certification with one model’s battery capacity being noted in the report.

Both the EB-BL330ABY and EB-BL505ABY battery variants are listed, but there is no indication as to if one, both, or none of these is a Classic or premium variant of the Galaxy Watch 8 series. In one of the pages, the EB-BL330ABY model is listed as having a rated capacity of 426 mAh and a typical capacity of 435 mAh. The typical capacity is generally the advertised metric, which places this model much lower than the rated capacity of the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which comes in at 590 mAh. It is, however, larger than the 425 mAh battery in the Watch 6.

The last Classic model was the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. That smartwatch was equipped with a 425 mAh battery — essentially the same as what the prospective Galaxy Watch 8 or Watch 8 Classic battery packs. Still, it’s unknown whether the above model is the Galaxy Watch 8 base variant, which would understandably carry a lower rating. If it’s the classic model, however, that is a low number for the more premium version. Still, the Classic edition has never really carried a strong battery offering, at least in comparison to the jump from the Watch 7 to the Watch Ultra.

This comes as Samsung plans to start using better energy tech in upcoming wearables, but that will not come to the Galaxy Watch until 2027.

The leak leaves more questions than answers, but it’s a good indication of what at least one Galaxy Watch 8 model will bring to the table.
