Galaxy S25 Series To Be Snapdragon-Powered, Qualcomm Confirms

While the presence of Snapdragon hardware across the Samsung Galaxy S25 series was an open secret in the industry, we were yet to get an official confirmation. Even some Samsung executives had suggested it, but without saying it outright. Now, it has been officially confirmed that the Galaxy S25 series will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip worldwide.

Earlier, Samsung executives confirmed that the company failed to sort things out in time at its factories to use the Exynos 2500 chip in the Galaxy S25 series. Still, none of them had said who would be the chip provider for their next-generation flagship phones yet. That said, not even the most die-hard MediaTek fan was given a chance to see a Dimensity chip in these devices. So, the only option left was the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

After much speculation about the Galaxy S25 series’ release date, Samsung finally confirmed yesterday that it will hold the first Unpacked event of 2025 on January 22. The company posted about it on X/Twitter, to which the official Snapdragon account responded with a short and concise “See you there.” In other words, Qualcomm has confirmed that its Snapdragon flagship SoCs will be in the Galaxy S25 phones. Since Samsung already said that the phones won’t have Exynos chips, everything points to the Snapdragon 8 Elite powering all of them.

In the past few years, Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra phones have used more powerful “for Galaxy” versions of Snapdragon chips. In some regions, such as the US, the chip is not only present in the most premium Galaxy S phone. You could also find it in the vanilla and Plus versions. “Snapdragon for Galaxy” chips typically offer slightly more powerful clock speeds. We might see something similar on the Galaxy S25 series as well. Interestingly, this variant of the chip is usually available to other manufacturers in the second half of the year, although under a different name.
