Galaxy S25 Series First To Support Qi2.1 Charging, But It’s Not What You Think
It has been confirmed that the entire Samsung Galaxy S25 series supports Qi2.1 wireless charging and 15W charging speeds. It’s not what you think, though. It sounds better than it actually is, actually.
The Galaxy S25 series phones are the first to support Qi2.1 charging, but it’s not what it seems
Why? Well, the Galaxy S25 phones lack built-in magnets, which actually requires a case in order for you to take proper advantage of Qi2 in general. Without them, you’re just getting 15W wireless charging as the one the Galaxy S24 series offered.
It is worth noting that the Galaxy S25 series is the first to offer Qi2.1, even though it requires some workarounds. All three phones are technically ‘Qi2 Ready’, as the magnets are offloaded to cases.
So, as you can see, it does sound better than it actually is. You’ll need a case in order to take advantage of Qi2 charging, and the v2.1 doesn’t really deliver any benefit either. Samsung should have just included magnets on the inside, but there you go.
Many phones out there support way faster wireless charging
Depending on who you are, this charging speed may bother you more than the fact magnets are not included. Why? Well, because there are many phones out there that support much faster wireless charging.
For example, the OnePlus 13 supports 50W wireless charging, while the HONOR Magic7 Pro comes with 80W wireless charging. Both of those two phones can run around the Galaxy S25 when it comes to wireless charging speed.
We were at least expecting that the magnets would be built into the phones, and Qi2 charging supported that way, but that didn’t happen either. Samsung, for some reason, decided to do something else entirely. Perhaps it’s to sell more cases, and perhaps the reason is something else entirely. We’ll likely never know for sure, but there you go.
