Galaxy S25 Edge’s Thinness Won’t Affect Durability, Samsung Says

The Galaxy S25 Edge is an enigmatic device. Samsung debunked most of the leaks that had surfaced last year with the first official teaser. So, we can say that we know almost nothing about it except for its ultra-slim design. You might be worried that the Galaxy S25 Edge’s slim thickness will lead to durability issues. However, a Samsung representative has come out to calm the waters.
Annika Bizon, Samsung’s UK Marketing Director, answered a few questions about the Galaxy S25 Edge to TechRadar. One of the questions was related to the design and thickness of the handset. We’ve seen a few cases in the past of phones whose slim design led to bending issues. When bending issues potentially affect many units and not just a few, the situation becomes a so-called “bendgate.” The iPhone 6 Plus from 2014 had similar issues, raising a lot of controversy at the time.
Galaxy S25 Edge will be thin without compromising durability
However, Bizon claims that Samsung developed the Galaxy S25 Edge with durability in mind. “With anything slim, durability [has to come as part of the package]. Those are the two features [of the Edge] that are exciting [for us]. Well, I know durability isn’t exciting—but it’s really important,” said Samsung’s UK Marketing Director. While there are no more specific details, it’s clear that durability was a key consideration during the design process of the phone.
Bizon also praised the aesthetics of the upgrading super-slim handset. “It’s absolutely stunning. And if you think about the technology that’s going into that size of space, it’s pretty impressive,” she stated.
Samsung has shown off physical units of the Galaxy S25 Edge a couple of times. The initial official teaser was during the Galaxy S25 series launch event in January. Weeks later, the company brought the phone to the latest MWC 2025 in Barcelona. However, in neither case did the firm allow people to touch the device. So, no one has a real idea of how solid and sturdy it feels in hand.
A potential ceramic rear cover could help
Some leaks suggest that the Galaxy S25 Edge will be equipped with a ceramic back cover. TechRadar suggests that this could be the reason no one has been able to touch the product. The South Korean giant may want to keep this premium material a surprise for later.
Using ceramic would undoubtedly give the Galaxy S25 Edge greater resistance. However, because it’s a denser material than others usually integrated into smartphones, it could make the phone heavier. Anyway, the name “Slim” only promises a thin device, but not necessarily a light one, right?
According to leaks, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset will power the Galaxy S25 Edge. Slimness may compromise battery capacity, as the cell may be smaller than 4,000 mAh. This will undoubtedly require a lot of optimization to achieve a decent battery life. Lastly, the thickness of the smartphone is expected to be under 6 mm.
