Galaxy S24 Was Samsung’s Biggest Release Since 2019, IPhone Still Dominates Top 10 List

According to new reports, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series was a hit for the company and its best-selling flagship since 2019, but it only just barely cracked the top 10 list for smartphone sales in 2024.

The numbers on Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series are in, and they’re really good. As Canalys reports, the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra were Samsung’s best-selling flagship phones since 2019’s Galaxy S10 series. Sales were apparently “skewed more toward the Ultra than ever before.”

That’s backed up by data from Hana Securities, as shared by @Jukanelosreve on Twitter/X. Samsung apparently sold just over 37 million total Galaxy S24 devices in 2024. That total breaks down to 16.82 million S24 Ultra units, 13.2 million S24 units, and 7.14 million S24+ units.

This was amid a global smartphone market that, as a whole, grew by 7% in 2024.

Samsung and Apple were neck and neck in terms of shipments, with Apple just barely edging out Samsung’s 222.9 million shipments with its own total of 225.9 million. These figures do tend to vary, but it’s clear that 2024 was the year where Apple finally took Samsung’s crown as the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer.

Looking at a list of the top 10 best-selling smartphone models globally in 2024, Apple continues to dominate the list, with iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models taking up six of the top 10 slots, and iPhone 13 wrapping up the top 10. Samsung managed to get three devices onto the list with the Galaxy A15 being at the top, the A15’s 5G variant in eighth place, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra sitting in ninth, both making up around 1.6-1.8% of the smartphone market as a whole.

In 2023, none of Samsung’s flagship devices made it into the top 10.
